The Impact of Social Exclusion on Drug Attitudes with Emphesis on Religious Lifestyle

Abstract

The present study aimed to explain the effect of social exclusion on the tendency to use drugs among employees of addiction treatment and rehabilitation centers in Tehran, emphasizing religious lifestyle and using the survey and field study method. The statistical population of the study included all employees of addiction treatment and rehabilitation centers in Tehran, of which 150 people were selected as the sample size based on the multi-stage random cluster sampling method and based on the Morgan 150 table. The present article has used the theories of Silver, Burchart, Giddens, Zubair and Bourdieu as theoretical foundations, and also topics related to Islamic lifestyle using verses from the Quran and hadiths of the infallible Imams from authentic Islamic books have been used. The results of the study showed that the variables; Exclusion from the labor market, lack of in-group support, lack of inter-group support, lack of face-to-face social relationships with neighbors, relatives, and friends, lack of non-face-to-face social relationships with neighbors, relatives, and friends, lack of associational participation, and lack of non-associational participation had an impact on the tendency to use drugs among employees of addiction treatment and rehabilitation centers in Tehran. In addition, the results of the study showed that increasing the desire and belief in a religious lifestyle among individuals and participating in religious ceremonies can play a very significant role in reducing the tendency to addiction and also increasing the sense of belonging.
