Considering the importance of the impact of physical activity on some of the problems of old age, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating psychosocial transformation factors based on Erikson's psychosocial perspective in active and inactive elderly. This research is a post-event study that is based on practical purpose and was conducted in the field in the summer of 2020 on the elderly living in Tabriz city. The statistical population of this research is the elderly people over 60 years old in Tabriz city, this research examines the role of physical activity on psychosocial development by comparing active elderly people (52 people) as elderly people who participated in physical activity and morning exercise for 6 months and inactive elderly people. (54 people) as elderly people who did not participate in morning sports and any other sports activities in the last 6 months. In order to investigate the difference between the two groups of active and inactive elderly in the variables of psychosocial development, multivariate analysis of variance test was used, and logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the predictability of physical activity.
The results showed that there was a significant difference between the active and inactive elderly in the positive scale (socialization, productivity and perfection) and the negative scale (isolation and despair). And they have the ability to predict physical activity from the positive scales (independence of action, popularization, productivity and perfection) and from the negative scales (isolationism, fruitlessness and despair).
Therefore, it can be concluded that physical activity in the elderly, based on Erikson's point of view, increases positive psychosocial factors such as perfection, and on the other hand, lack of physical activity in the elderly increases negative psychosocial factors such as isolation and despair.
