The present study aimed to investigate the role of optimism in the severity of grief reactions due to the death of a spouse, considering the mediating role of coping styles. This study is a correlational study of path analysis type in terms of its fundamental purpose and method. The statistical population of the present study included all wives of martyrs in 1404 (2025) who were grieving due to the loss of their spouses at the time of the study. 283 people were selected as samples through available sampling. The instruments of this study included the Grief Severity Scale (GIS), the Optimism Scale (SCOQ), and the Coping Strategies Questionnaire (SCSQ). The fit indices showed that the final model had a good fit. The findings indicated that the direct effect of optimism on the severity of grief reactions (P<0.01) was not significant. The results also showed that the indirect effect of optimism on the severity of grief reactions through coping styles was significant (P<0.01). Therefore, necessary measures should be taken in this regard. it can be concluded that optimism, through the mediation of coping styles, can explain the intensity of grief reactions resulting from the death of a spouse.
